We offer the following outpatient rehabilitation programs:
Adaptive Driving
A driving assessment program to individuals that have experienced a medical disability,
helping them regain mobility and independence. A.D.E.P.T. is designed to determine
if a patient has the sophisticated level of physical and cognitive skills necessary
to operate a motor vehicle safely
Amputee
Life after amputation is filled with the challenge of adapting and returning to a normal life. The goal of Kansas
Rehabilitation’s amputee program is to return the patient to the highest level of independence at home, in the community and
in the workplace. Utilizing the latest in rehabilitation technology and therapists specializing in prosthetic training, patient’s
experience increased function and less complications post amputation.
Arthritis
FFor many people the pain of osteoarthritis can become so severe that it disrupts normal living. Caring for yourself becomes
difficult, and handling family or work responsibilities may become impossible. Kansas Rehabilitation Hospital's arthritis program
helps an individual reduce and manage their pain while increasing their independence. Working in conjunction with the Arthritis
Foundation, patients are offered free classes to help them manage the long-term effects of arthritis.
Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic therapy is often prescribed by physicians for clients who are suffering from a variety of disorders. The pool is maintained
at ninety two degrees and provides a relaxing and safe environment allowing patients to increase their confidence, reduce pain,
and regain function and independence. Aquatic therapy facilitates the return to work and everyday activities.
Balance and Vestibular
This program evaluates and treats patients with persistent dizziness or disequilibrium helping patients to prevent falls and
decreasing safety concerns. A multilevel approach is used for effectiveness in eliminating or managing symptoms including
perceptual-motor assessment, strengthening, compensatory skills training, home environment adaptations, specialized vestibular
exercises and manual manipulation.
Brain Injury
Early rehabilitation is critical to help patients achieve their fullest potential after brain injury. Kansas Rehabilitation
Hospital has established a rehabilitation program that helps patients achieve and maximize functional and cognitive recovery
following a brain injury. The program enables patients to become more self-sufficient and understand how to avoid future health problems.
Chronic Pain
Pain can effect every facet of someone’s life and without intervention can lead to loss of independence, function, and quality of life.
Kansas Rehabilitation Hospital uses a combination of treatment methods to combat debilitation from chronic pain, while seeking to reduce
dependence on medication. Additionally, a free educational series is offered to empower patients to encourage them to proactively develop
long-term pain management methods.
Community Re-entry and Re-education
This program prepares patients to successfully re-enter the community following
an injury or illness.
Driver Assessments
This program tests to determine driver safety and/or trains and adapts vehicles for persons with disabilities. Components
of the program include an evaluation of the individual's physical and cognitive abilities, behavior, attitude and potential
for safe driving. This includes a vision assessment, evaluation of reaction time, visual field, coordination, visual-perceptual
skills and cognitive abilities using a computer simulator. Driver simulation can be conducted using the program’s adapted vehicle. Training
is available for the individual who demonstrates the potential for safe driving with or without adaptive aids. Components of training may
include basic vehicle operation with or without adaptive equipment, road skill management and therapy.
Evaluation and training is conducted by registered occupational therapists who have attended workshops to further their skills in this area. Based on the individual's capabilities, specific recommendations can be made regarding vehicle selection, adaptive devices, and therapy regimes that will allow the individual to safely operate a motor vehicle. Day Rehabilitation Program This program is designed to provide a continuum of care for persons who need the intensity of inpatient rehabilitation without the oversight of nursing care. Additionally, the patient must require two therapies (physical, occupational and/or speech) and need additional time for recovery between or during therapy sessions such that traditional outpatient schedules would not allow. Day rehabilitation is typically scheduled from 8 a.m. until noon or from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. For all day attendees, lunch is provided.
Fibromyalgia
This complex condition requires a multifaceted therapy regime and includes a strong educational component to help patient
maximize function while decreasing pain and fatigue. A support/educational group and self-pay pool exercise program is available
to help sustain gains made in therapy.
Hip Fracture
Rehabilitation following an orthopedic surgery is a very challenging and demanding experience. The rehabilitation program for hip
fracture or other orthopedic surgery was established to assist our patients in setting and achieving their goals to maximize functional
recovery and independence.
Gait Training
The act of walking is one of the most complex activities of the human body. Range of motion in joints, strength, coordination and
timing essentials to safe and energy efficient walking can all be improved with therapy increasing overall health and independence.
General Rehabilitation
Kansas Rehabilitation Hospital’s General Rehabilitation Program provides comprehensive medical rehabilitation services for
individuals who have experienced a decline in their physical and cognitive abilities. This decline may be due to an illness or
other medical condition. Our General Rehabilitation Program is designed to help patients maximize functional independence; maximize
emotional well-being; and resume their previous roles or modified roles at work, home or leisure.
Industrial and Work Hardening
Kansas Rehabilitation Hospital’s Industrial Rehabilitation Program is an injury prevention and management program. Our objective is
to identify the injured worker’s current functional limitations and successfully rehabilitate the individual to the level of physical
and functional conditioning required to return safely to work in a timely, cost-effective manner. Post-offer screening is also
available to employers.
Multiple Sclerosis
The Multiple Sclerosis Program is a multidisciplinary treatment approach designed to maximize an individual's independence. This
specialized team is committed to improving the quality of life for those with multiple sclerosis and their families. The program
addresses each individual's needs holistically, resulting in positive outcomes in all stages of the disease.
Neurorehabilitation
Kansas Rehabilitation Hospital's Neurological Disorders Program meets the needs of patients with a variety of conditions including
but not limited to steroid myopathy, Guillain-Barre’, and recovery after prolonged hospitalization resulting in loss of motor function. By
following a rehabilitation plan designed to achieve functional gains, patients become more functionally independent and learn how
to reduce the risk of future medical problems.
Orthopedics
Orthopedic rehabilitation treats musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. Kansas Rehabilitation Hospital's pathway to recovery for
patients with orthopedic conditions helps them achieve and maintain functional gains in less time than with less intensive programs. The
program is individualized according to a patient's needs, functional goals and extent of injury.
Parkinson's Disease
Kansas Rehabilitation Hospital coordinates a specialized program that meets the needs of patients with Parkinson's disease.
An accredited program through the Parkinson’s Foundation of the Heartland, our staff has received special training to increase
our success with Parkinson’s patients. Our rehabilitation regimen includes the utilization of the latest in rehabilitation
technology including Interactive Metronome and the AutoAmbulator to achieve functional gains, patients become more functionally
independent and decrease safety concerns.
Pediatrics
Helping a child achieve his or her full potential following an injury or illness
requires special care and guidance. After many years of treating children, HealthSouth
has established a rehabilitation program to help children return to normal activities
and avoid future health problems.
Spinal Cord Injury
Spinal cord rehabilitation is an intricate and complicated process that requires a team of experts to enhance a patient's
abilities on physical, cognitive and emotional levels. Based on a patient's limitations, our interdisciplinary team establishes
an individualized treatment plan. Each plan of care incorporates specific methods that encourage the patient to develop pragmatic
problem-solving approaches appropriate for his or her rehabilitation and continuing care.
Stroke
Kansas Rehabilitation Hospital has established a comprehensive stroke rehabilitation program to help patients achieve functional
gains in a timely, cost-effective manner. This pathway to recovery allows patients to become more functionally independent and
understand how to incorporate lifestyle changes that reduce the risk of future strokes or other complications.
Swallowing Disorders
Swallowing disorders can be caused by injury, chronic diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, cancer treatments, and surgery
complications. Evaluation studies can be done to determine what area(s) of the swallowing process have been affected and treatment
plans are then developed to increase the patient’s ability to swallow safely and effectively. Vital Stim technology has
revolutionized the treatment of swallowing disorders and is effective even after years of debilitation.

Although a physician’s order is needed, patients, family members, physicians, vocational counselors and agencies may refer someone to the program. Our staff will be happy to assist you in working with your physician.
The majority of insurance plans do not cover driving evaluation and training sessions. The program is set up in two phases, each paid separately. The first phase is testing and costs $177.00.
